Dozens of Peoria residents visited the Lincoln branch of the Peoria Public Library on Monday for advice on how to save money on utility services. The event, hosted by Illinois representative Jehan Gordon-Booth, D-Peoria, provided information on how to apply for heating and water assistance programs such as LIHEAP and LIHWAP.
There were also individual media bill reviews with representatives of the Citizen's Council for Public Services (CUB) and a question and answer session with representatives of the Ameren and Peoria Economic Opportunities Committee. "We know a lot of people struggle with utility bills," said Gordon-Booth. "We wanted to create a one-stop shop for some of the offers available to people to find ways to lower their utility bills."
The Peoria Citizens' Committee on Economic Opportunities (PCCEO) accepts LIHEAP and LIHWAP applications for programs beginning September 1. days and last water or Amerena bill. Applications can be made at PCCEO locations at 711 W. McBean St. or 512 E. Kansas St., where East Bluff Community Center is located.
